Easter + Spring Projects

I'm working on my versions of these projects. I'll let you know how it goes!

I'm not sure I'll get to this one. Some pastel fuzz balls would
make this a very festive spring project.

Using my thrift finds

So last weekend I picked up a few things for $1 each.

I used the metal container for my eye balls. I was going to paint it but I decided I liked the patina.

The vase was my next project.

I just spray painted the vase with a flat black. I used three light coats. I'd been looking for something to put these flowers in since last fall. Everything was too tall or too small. Besides that, vases are expensive! What gives? You think they keep making and selling the same vases (I've been looking for a year), you'd think the prices would go down! I knew exactly what I wanted in my head. After seeing a few spray paint tutorials for glass, I knew the glass vase had a good chance of working out. Plus it was $1 so if it didn't work oh well right? I'm so excited this worked out!

Pinspiring - Halloween Eye Balls

I love Pinterest. Obviously I'm not the only one! It has enabled me to collect projects and pretties. It also (somehow) motivated me to do some stuff. So, in honor of this motivation, I've decided to do at least one post a week showing something I did that was inspired by something I saved on Pinterest. (got that?) I'm starting out simple with some Halloween "eye balls".

They were pinspired by the following creations. Thanks crafters!

I wish I'd used the neon green or some glitter but I didn't have that on hand when I started. I definitely will next time. Maybe even some glow in the dark!

The googly eyes were the pinspiration but I also made some of moss and tried making other kinds of decorative balls. The black and silver decorative balls where made using styrofoam craft balls, paint and puff paint. Even using a fairly smooth styrofoam ball you could still see bumps. I didn't quite get it as I wanted it on this first try but I had fun so I'll definitely be trying again - they are so expensive at the store! The moss balls were floral foam balls that I wired moss to. I just cut some pieces of wire and bent it to make pins. Nothing fancy on that part - just thought you might want to know.

Ruffle Pillow - A DIY

Look what Lovely.Little.Laughter made me! It is perfect and I love it dearly.
(So much so that I won't let hubby sit near it. Joking. Sort of.)

She tells how she did it here.

Make It - Photo Birthday Wreath

I saw a version of this somewhere and thought it was a good way to celebrate my Dad's birthday. This was before I joined Pinterest so I don't know who to give the credit to (ha ha). If I ever come across it on the web, I'll link it up in this post. Lovely.Little.Laughter thought it was cute too (for several reasons) and gives some details here.

Anyway, it wasn't too difficult once I figured out how I wanted to create the wreath. In the version I'd seen before, the photos were permanently attached. I knew that I wanted to use the actual photos and some memorabilia from when Dad was growing up. I just didn't want to put the time in to reprint the photos, use decorative edged scissors and age them but I definitely wanted it to look that way. Once I realized this, I knew I wanted something re-usable and I could change. I'd already decided to use magnets (some I had and some I bought 1/2 off at Hobby Lobby) and I wanted a wreath shaped piece of metal for a base. After a trip or two to Hobby Lobby and Michaels (and one to Lowe's just in case they made such a thing), I scrapped that idea and just bought a wire wreath form from Hobby Lobby (I think it was $2 or less). This made placement a little tricker but it still worked. So for about $5 I made it!

PS - Dad really liked it so it was worth it! Here's a few more pics.
